An International Presence
Keeneland is committed to the growth of the marketplace and invests in a year-round global market development strategy to attract the deepest international buying bench in the industry. The September Sale offers a critical mass of quality individuals at all levels of the market that lures prospective buyers to Keeneland annually.
The depth of the buying bench has been huge. Some of your bigger partnerships and major buyers are picking up quite a few horses but beneath them you are seeing a wide variety of buyers and they are spending lots of money and coming back for more. The energy has been sensational.
Strong Japanese Buying
Buyers from Japan were bullish on the September Sale offerings, led by Hideyuki Mori’s purchase of five yearlings for $2,545,000. Included among Mori’s purchases was a colt by Curlin who is a half-brother to undefeated Triple Crown winner Justify for $1.2 million.

There were 18 groups from Japan here for the sale. That's the busiest they've been at a September Sale in a long, long time. Our breeders offer a high-quality horse that is very appealing to the international market.
Repole Leads the Way
Like many of the other leading buyers at the 2022 September Sale, prominent owner Mike Repole was a major presence throughout the first week of the auction, while accompanied by Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher, Jacob West, Ed Rosen, Jim Martin and Danielle Bricker. In different partnerships, Repole races 2022 Eclipse Award champions Forte and Nest, both September Sale acquisitions.
Other major owners at Keeneland to personally oversee their purchases included Don Adam, Dana and Jim Bernhard, Larry Best, Peter Brant, M.V. Magnier, Mandy Pope, Tom Ryan, Lee Searing, Michael Talla, Ron Winchell, Jack Wolf and Yoshito Yahagi, among others.

It’s the best of the best.. the best pedigrees, the best physicals, that you're going to show off to the world's best buyers.
Diverse Buying Bench Lifts All Consignors
While perennial leader Taylor Made Sales Agency again ranked as top consignor, the broad international buying bench in 2022 provided a financial boost to many breeders, small and large. A boutique operation, Chiquita and Jeff Reddoch’s small family-run Stonehaven Steadings was represented by the $2.5 million sale-topping Quality Road colt.

Overall, just about every breeder has got to be over the moon with how things have gone with this sale. Keeneland has done a tremendous job with the recruitment.
