September Success

A boutique Thoroughbred nursery in Central Kentucky, Stonehaven Steadings has seen staggering success at the Keeneland September Sale, averaging more than $3 million in gross sales.

The Family Business

Owned by Jeff and Chiquita Reddoch, Stonehaven Steadings is operated by their daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Aidan O’Meara. Nestled along historic Old Frankfort Pike, it was the rolling hills and lush green pastures that first drew Jeff and Chiquita to the area, and to the farm on which they would raise champions, and where daughter, Leah, and her husband, Aidan, would raise their children and follow their dreams.

The Source for Standouts

For buyers who want to compete on racing’s biggest stages, the Stonehaven Steadings consignment is always on their list when shopping at Keeneland September. From Starlight Racing’s purchase of eventual Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Shanghai Bobby to Spendthrift prompting the hammer drop in 2019 on this year’s Las Virgenes S. (G2) winner, Moonlight d’Oro, Stonehaven Steadings has earned the reputation as a source for September standouts.

Profitable Pinhooks

While the farm has earned the industry’s respect as the breeder of world-class runners, they’ve also got a keen eye for pinhooking. After purchasing Lamutanaatty as a weanling for $177,000, Stonehaven Steadings sold him to Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estate Co. Ltd for $700,000 at the 2019 September Sale.

That success was echoed at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale when West Point Thoroughbred and Woodford Racing paid $575,000 for a colt by Candy Ride (ARG), who Stonehaven Steadings bought as a weanling for $250,000.

Focused on Quality

“At Stonehaven Steadings, we raise top-class Thoroughbred athletes through a combination of traditional and modern-day horsemanship. From the initial mating selections to the intricate management of the horses and the limestone-rich land on which they are raised, we have developed a boutique broodmare band that is focused on quality over quantity.”

We take great pride in the horses we raise as we hand them over for the next stage of their lives and follow their careers with great anticipation.
