Trusting Your Instincts

David Anderson’s Anderson Farms has been selling at Keeneland September for many years. So, when he believed he had a million-dollar prospect, he knew he had to bring her to the 2020 Keeneland September Sale. He trusted his instincts and the decision paid off.

A Seven-Figure Sale

That prospect, a filly by Medaglia d’Oro, sold for $1.6 million to Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estate Company Ltd. She was the sale’s third-highest-priced yearling overall.

When you get to that level at Keeneland, where you have the biggest owners in the world in on her, it becomes a question of who wants her most. Did I think she was a million-dollar filly? Absolutely. She’s the best filly I’ve ever raised.

Steady Success

Founded by David’s late father, Bob, Anderson Farms has had a steady stream of star September Sale graduates, like Canadian Horse of the Year Wonder Gadot and Grade 1 winner Hard Not to Love.

All in the Family

At the 2017 September Sale, David sold Group 1 winner Sergei Prokofiev for $1.1 million to Coolmore’s M. V. Magnier. Entering stud this year, Sergei Prokofiev is a half-brother to the $1.6 million filly sold to Shadwell in 2020 – a sign of her bright future ahead.
