Vision. Passion. Expertise. Loyalty.

For decades, those words have defined Ben Glass in his role as racing manager for owners Gary and Mary West, as he helps them find their next stars each September at Keeneland.

“Like a Brother to Me.”

It’s about more than success on the track. For Glass and West, it’s about family – and a relationship built on trust, understanding and mutual respect.

I know exactly what Gary wants…We’ve been doing this for a long time. Gary’s like a brother to me.

Finding Champions

Over the past 30 years, Glass has found multiple champions and graded stakes winners at Keeneland September. One of the most notable is multimillionaire and champion two-year-old colt Game Winner.

I don’t buy anything I don’t love…you know, I loved him. He was an athlete – he looked beautiful. When they walk out like he did and present themselves that well and have that big walk, you have to try to buy them.

Mary and I have been excited about Game Winner since the day Ben Glass bought him for us at Keeneland. These special horses are so hard to come by, and to have a champion means everything to us.

The Best of Their Generation

Game Winner isn’t the only champion Glass first laid eyes on at Keeneland’s September Sale.

Again and again at Keeneland September, Glass has found the Wests’ future Champions. In 2010, it was a striking bay colt offered by Clearsky Farms that would go on to become Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner New Year’s Day.

Something Special

Just a few years later in 2013, lightning struck yet again, as Glass placed the winning bid on the eventual Grade 1 victor and champion three-year-old West Coast.

Decades of Success

It’s a formula for success more than 30 years in the making – and Ben Glass and the Wests have found it, over and over again, at Keeneland September. Two Eclipse Award champions. Two Breeders’ Cup winners. 12 graded stakes winners. And the best may still be yet to come.
